Knowles Jewelry of Minot has been a part of the Minot community for twenty-two years. Owners Al and Linda Torrington and their experienced staff offer an outstanding selection of loose diamonds and designer jewelry in their beautiful showroom. Knowles Jewelry of Minot prides itself on being a full-service jewelry store and is proud to offer on-site jewelry repair and design. For almost a century, Knowles Jewelry has set the standard for exceptional jewelry in North Dakota. The original Knowles Jewelry was founded in Bismarck in June of 1907 by F.A. Knowles and J.A. Haney. Six years later Knowles bought out his partner Haney and established Knowles Jewelry as an independent fine jeweler in downtown Bismarck. Mr. Knowles operated the store until 1949 when he sold it to Joe Lohmer. Lohmer sold the store to Ted and Rudy Kempf in 1959.In 1975, Knowles Jewelry purchased Straus Jewelry in Minot, which dated back to the 1930s. In 1984, Bruce Peterson, an employee of Knowles at the time, purchased the share of one of the Kempf brothers and took over the Minot operation, renaming the store Knowles Jewelry, though operating it separately from the Bismarck store. In the mid-1990s Peterson moved the store to a location near Dakota Square Mall. Barbara and Mark Maland bought the store from Peterson in 1997 and kept the store in the same location until March 2003 when they moved the store to its present location in the 20th Avenue Mall in Minot. In February 2006, Al and Linda Torrington purchased the store from the Malands. They continue the long tradition of excellence that has made Knowles Jewelry of Minot the premier jewelry store in Minot. As an independent fine jewelry store, Knowles Jewelry of Minot specializes in diamonds and colored stones as well as fine jewelry manufactured by the world's premiere designers. Knowles Jewelry of Minot also specializes in its own line of custom made jewelry created and cast by our professional Senior Bench Jeweler and Goldsmith. Knowles Jewelry of Minot is also known for its great selection of Swiss timepieces, clocks and giftware. The store is accredited by the American Gem Society, and all members of the staff have been certified by the Gemological Institute of America as diamond appraisers. Our professional staff totals over 30 years of combined jewelry experience.

Repairs
We are extremely proud of our senior bench goldsmith, John Neiss. He has over 17 years experience, and he is well-known in Minot for his exceptional work. In addition, he has created dozens of custom pieces of jewelry including items specifically crafted for individual customers.

Watches
We will replace batteries in all brands of watches while you wait, and are happy to add or replace links in metal watch bands.

Engraving
We can engrave most metal items including giftware, watches, and rings.

Jewelry Cleaning & Inspection
We recommend that you have your jewelry cleaned and inspected at least every six months. We are always happy to do this for you at no charge.

Appraisals
We issue appraisals on items purchased here for over $500 for your insurance purposes. We can also update appraisals on older items. There is a nominal fee for updating appraisals. We have four people on staff that are certified to appraise diamonds. In the future, we will also have two people qualified to appraise colored gems.
